I am still reading. I am and remain ALL THE BUSY with Norwesconly things - the convention starts in ten days. But I had a lousy shopping experience at an Avenue store this weekend that deserves some Avenging.



To whom it may concern:

I am writing about an extremely unsatisfying shopping experience at your Renton, WA store this Sunday the 6th of April. While the staff were perfectly delightful and helpful, there were several issues making the day an unpleasant one.

First, the lack of availability of items in larger sizes. I was in the store expressly to find jeans and yoga pants. I wear a [size redacted], and there were precisely TWO pairs of pants in my size in the entire store. Is this an ordering issue on the part of store management, or corporate policy? I noticed the sign on the door mentioning larger sizes available on the website, which makes me suspect the latter. It's difficult enough to find clothing in my size that doesn't look like it should be adorning a couch. You used to be my go-to source; not anymore.

Secondly, cleanliness. The pants I *was* able to try on brushed across the floor while I was changing, and came away streaked with dust. It doesn't appear that the floors had been swept in weeks.

Third, clutter. Apparently a shipment had just come in - there were boxes everywhere in the changing area, and the three-way mirror was blocked by a folded ladder. Not acceptable.

Fourth, poorly executed repairs. The wallpaper in my changing room had apparently started to peel up at one time, and rather than repair it properly, it was held down with several strips of clear packing tape. Inadequate cheaply-done repairs make it appear as though you can't afford better, and don't inspire confidence.

Clothes shopping is often an emotionally-fraught experience for people of size. Were I a person of lower self-esteem, I would have left in tears instead of in frustration. Your stores can do, and have done, so much better. There are advantages to shopping at brick-and-mortar stores, but experiences like mine drive customers to the Internet - and if they don't enjoy the in-store experience, they aren't likely to patronize your online offerings either.

Furthermore, the other three locations in the greater Seattle area have now closed, so my options of shopping at your brick-and-mortar stores are limited. I'm not willing to drive 140+ miles to shop at the next nearest store, nor am I willing to be punted to the website for every purchase. Carry more [size redacted]s and you're more likely to keep me as a customer.

Let me say again that the staff in store were lovely - they went out of their way to help me, and diligently returned to their stocking tasks when not assisting customers. All of the issues I describe show clear evidence of issues at the management level or above.

P.S. - I was only able to spend $48.15 in your store yesterday. I'd budgeted $300, and your loss was Catherine's gain.

P.P.S. - Skinny jeans are a terrible idea for fat women. Can we please be done with that trend now?
