And then suddenly I am ran over by a truck, composed primarily of sinus goo and muscle strain.

Now... Who wants an aloe plant? Pretty please? With, uh, nutrient-rich ecologically-sound compost on top...

I just finished the On-Call Week From Hell. Eleven page-outs and a late night maintenance window over the course of seven days, during which my phone threatened to eat itself, and then [livejournal.com profile] datavore threatened to eat my phone.

I forgot to shower all weekend, and only left the house six times last week: four times for work, one 15min trip to the grocery store, and out to dinner on Sunday with Marty, [livejournal.com profile] beaq, and [livejournal.com profile] hollyking (who came up to stay the night so he could be fresh for the next day's job interviews).

Holy fuck, but I'm TIRED. Looking forward to Spa Night tonight with [livejournal.com profile] sirriamnis, [livejournal.com profile] rubylou, and friends. I desperately need a massage, or my head is going to pop off.

P.S. - You should all go congratulate [livejournal.com profile] hollyking - yesterday's interviews have already spawned a job offer!

To dinner, and then Boston, pending [livejournal.com profile] beaq-appearance. Nobody hide Seattle while we're gone, or I shall be very put out.

Thursday: Excellent conversation over Ethiopian with [livejournal.com profile] ivolucien at Meskel in the Central District, half a block from the now-defunct La Louisiana. Similar menu to Queen Sheba on Capitol Hill, but much better food.

Friday: Hopped the Trolley to Pioneer Square after work to peruse the selection at Magic Mouse. Struggled to find educational toys both age-appropriate and not gender-biased, ended up with this. Also picked up this for the dog. Must remember to call it George, as Secret Service has no sense of humor for phrases such as 'kill the' p-word. Also snagged Devil Duckie and Pirate bandaids, arrr!

Saturday: Birthday party for [livejournal.com profile] divinemisso. Much amusement to be had watching the Bug open gifts and charm her favorite grown-ups. Had my turn holding the new baby, who was passed from person to person, and performed admirably under the circumstances. Kept trying to be polite and say my goodbyes at a reasonable hour, but got drawn into scintillating conversation with interesting people, and didn't head home until 8pm. High point of the day was Olivia Dress-Up Hour, in which she decided to wear all her new clothes at once - dress, Elmo t-shirt, sweatshirt, knee socks, two pairs of pajama sleepers, shoes from a dress-up doll, and rain hat from a bathtub toy. Quote of the day: "She's such a clothes horse." "She looks more like a clothes rack!"

Sunday: Lamed out on book-and-mathom-trading party at [livejournal.com profile] beaq's, as I am Lamey McLamerson of Lameville, Lameonia. Had a mountain-and-a-half of laundry to do, was feeling a bit socialled-out, and wanted to spend some time with the dog. Five loads later, still not done. Still to be done: three loads of sheets both old and new, two of towels, two of mattress pads, miscellaneous whites, some dry-clean-onlies, and a batch of too-delicate-for-the-delicate-cycles. Oh, and it's almost time to rewash the blankets that didn't make it into storage last year...

On the agenda this week: Monday night with [livejournal.com profile] datavore, Tuesday dinner at [livejournal.com profile] dreamingcrow and [livejournal.com profile] niac's, Wednesday at Cedars with the usual suspects, Friday opening-night Serenity outing with [livejournal.com profile] ivolucien and co.

In the meantime, autumn has Seattle firmly in its grip -- the weather is cooling, the trees are turning, and I'm remembering why this is my favorite time of year. Even the dog has been better behaved, adjusting quite well to being crated while we're at work. Other than some dishes overturned, and some minor digging at the crate door, no incidents so far.
