Certain people on my friends-list may find my most recent additions to the SixMore FAQ... amusing.

Pissing off an admin who already has a well-deserved reputation for bitchiness? Bad fucking idea. Be a dick someplace else. The positions of Asshole and Other Asshole have already been filled.

Oh, and if you haven't already figured it out, [livejournal.com profile] tithonium has resurrected SixMoreDegrees.com. Go. Link. General updates will be posted at [livejournal.com profile] sixmoredegrees. Email questions, bug reports, and feature requests to admin@.

As of about 3pm, we have electricity, heat, hot water, and the ability to cook food. Servers are back online as of about 9:30 PM - [livejournal.com profile] datavore took the opportunity to do some reorganization while the servers were still powered down. His update is here.

For those of you who aren't local to us, Seattle has been hit by a massive wind storm which has resulted in power outages across half the city. About a million people are without power in the Puget Sound region, 170,000 in Seattle proper, including us.

As of about 01:30 Pacific time this morning, any services or hardware we're hosting are off the air. We have no ETA on when power will be restored, and chances are we will be more focused on getting heat and hot water back in operation before we look at the server farm.

This outage affects all of our domains and services: Midgard.org, Epiglyph.com, Invitotron.com, sixmoredegrees.com, the Invitotron, MidgardMOO, DownMOO, Cyborg Folly, and probably several dozen other things I'm forgetting.

Crossposted all over the damn place.

DSL at [livejournal.com profile] nerdvana appears to be down, and [livejournal.com profile] datavore is by all appearances still asleep and unable to investigate. Since I have no idea how late he came to bed last night, I'm not waking his ass up to fix it. This means sixMore, MidgardMOO, hosted servers/domains, and all Rigel accounts are inaccessible (at the very least) until he gets up.

Please stop IMing me to ask when they'll be up. You're impinging upon valuable webslacking time.

UPDATE: 'Sfine now.

DSL appears to be down at [livejournal.com profile] nerdvana at the moment, so sixMore is temporarily unavailable. Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] datavore is already on his way home for lunch, so it should be back up shortly (presuming it's the typical DSL-bridge-locked-up-again problem, and not the longer-duration and more-annoying Speakeasy-fucked-up-again problem).

EDIT: It's back up. The cleaning service accidentally cut power to the DSL bridge while dusting.

I have created the community [livejournal.com profile] sixmoredegrees to post updates for and announcements about SixMoreDegrees. Membership in the community is open, but posting is limited to sixmore administrators [livejournal.com profile] datavore and [livejournal.com profile] loree.

To quote [livejournal.com profile] datavore: "Recently done: Link decay and deletion. FINALLY. Now shut up."

Due to decay relationships, some links need to be deleted twice. To see which links decay and which don't, see the Link Types page. And deleting a link with an implied reverse (i.e. "has had sex with") removes it for both users. Account deletion is still not implemented.

A FAQ is in the works, but I gotta write it first. Until then, read Site Notes - and please read the whole page - before emailing with questions.

Once upon a time in the mid to late '90s, there was this social networking site called Six Degrees. It was pretty good, if somewhat limited. But, like most dot.com doohickeys with no real revenue model, they ran out of money, and now their domain is being used by yet another lame blog site.

[livejournal.com profile] datavore, aka Marty, aka that dork I've dated/lived with for the last 7 1/2 years, has been working on (and by "working on" I mean "has spent every free moment of the last several weeks poking at/noodling with/screaming at") a quasi-replacement. It just passed the 100-user mark this weekend*, and you should go check it out.

Now keep in mind, this site is so very beta. Features and enhancements are changing on a daily (and in some cases hourly) basis. But it's fun, and it's interesting, and Marty could use more feedback from more sources than just me.

If you do sign up, please, for the love of all that's (un)holy, link to someone. And use your real name, or some recognizable combination of your real name and nickname. The point of this exercise is *social* networking, after all, and names like "Wolf" or "Raven" or "JR" and the like are ridiculously nonspecific. This ain't OKCupid, folks.

Clicky-clicky: SixDegrees

* - As I was writing this, we passed the 145-user** mark. I hope our bandwidth holds out...

** - Make that 218 users as of 2006-05-02 08:00 GMT -0:700.

EDIT: Multiple comments deleted due to overdose of LJ-Drama(TM). Personal commentary about specific users belongs elsewhere (6D has a 'dislikes' relationship for a reason).
